Philadelphia 76ers all set to re-sign Doug Collins; Craig Brackins to be released – NBA News
The Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris has revealed that he is quite happy with the performance of Coach Doug Collins and is going to extend his contract. His said this while talking to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Philadelphia 76ers had an amazing season, finishing with a 35-31 record to qualify for the playoffs and then after defeating the top seeded Chicago Bulls in the first round, pushed the Boston Celtics to 7 games before losing
in the decisive game 7 to be eliminated from the playoffs.
Doug Collins was a great asset to the team throughout the journey, helping them play to their true potential and creating a team philosophy that seemed to match with the players on the roster.
Collins has one more guaranteed year on his contact, plus a team option for the 2013-2014 season, but the team management seems quite happy with his performance and wants to sign him long term.
"We haven't sat down and had that discussion yet, but we want Doug to be here a long, long time. We consider Doug a real asset of the organization” said Harris.
The Sixers are also making a minor change in their roster, and they are not bringing back big man Craig Brackins. He was selected as the 21st draft pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, and was traded
on the same day to the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets in turn sent him to Philadelphia alongside Darius Songaila in exchange for Willie Green and Jason Smith after a few months.
Brackins was worth $1.5 million this season and the move seems to be a preparation for the trade season. The Phillies will need this money in the summer, as Spencer Hawes and Jodie Meeks are free agents this summer. Also, after
having a breakthrough season where he led the team in scoring even though he came off the bench, Lou Williams wants big bugs from the franchise.
It looks like a happening summer for the Sixers team and management as they seem quite excited about next season after an impressive show this season.
