Philadelphia 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies Win: NBA Wednesday Roundup – (Part 2)
Philadelphia 76ers cruise past Atlanta Hawks 105-100
Seven players scored in double figures, as the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Atlanta Hawks 105-100 at Wells Fargo Centre on Wednesday night.
Lou Williams came off the bench with a team-high 17 points for Philadelphia. Thaddeus Young and forward-guard Andre Iguodala scored 16 points each for the Sixers, who have won six of their last 10 games.
Guard Jodie Meeks had 15 points while Elton Brand contributed 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds in the victory. Meanwhile, Josh Smith did all he could, and added a game-high 33 points and 12 rebounds for Atlanta.
Forward Marvin Williams and guard Kirk Hinrich each chipped in with 16 points for the Hawks, who have lost their second consecutive game. The Sixers held a 30-28 lead after the first quarter, behind a nine-point effort from Jrue Holiday.
The Hawks recovered from their mistakes by turning up their defensive intensity in the second quarter and managed to take a 59-53 advantage into the locker room. Both teams played the third quarter at a crisp pace as they scored 21 points each. However,
Atlanta held an 80-74 edge heading into the final stanza.
Trailing by six points after three quarters, the 76ers made a marginal comeback in the fourth quarter, as they went on an 11-0 run to carry an 85-80 advantage for good. Philadelphia outscored Atlanta 31-20 in the fourth to seal the victory.
Memphis Grizzlies defeat Boston Celtics 90-87
The Memphis Grizzlies extended their winning streak to three games after a hard-fought 90-87 win over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Wednesday night.
Leon Powe and Zach Randolph chipped in with 13 points each for the Grizzlies, who have won six of their last 10 games. O.J. Mayo, Sam Young, and Marc Gasol posted 11 points apiece for Memphis. Gasol also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds in the victory.
Paul Pierce registered a game-high 22 points and also grabbed two assists and six rebounds for Boston. Guard Ray Allen had 14 points while forward-center Glen Davis came off the bench with 12 points in the defeat.
Guard Rajon Rondo finished with a game-high 11 assists and 11 rebounds for the Celtics, who have lost five of their last 10 contests.
The Grizzlies got it going offensively early in the opening quarter and held a 20-15 edge after 12 minutes. The Celtics made a great comeback in the second quarter and converted a five-point first quarter deficit into a 45-44 lead at half time.
Both teams played the third quarter at a crisp pace but Boston slowly began to build their lead, taking a 70-67 advantage into the fourth.
Young hit a three-pointer in the start of the fourth quarter to tie the contest at 70. The Grizzlies then put the game away with 14-7 flurry, which was enough help them seal their 40th victory of the season.
