Philadelphia 76ers decimate Charlotte Bobcats with a stunning 89-72 victory – NBA Recap
Two Eastern Conference teams Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Bobcats confronted each other at Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia. The event which turned out to be a celebrity broad walk mesmerized the spectators. Hollywood icon Will
Smith, who is the a minority owner of the Phoenix franchise, graced the event with his presence.
The game itself wasn’t a pleasant affair, especially for the Bobcats who had to embrace a fiasco as they lost to Philadelphia 76ers 72-89 in their 20th game of this season. The pundits had anticipated such an outcome
much earlier.
Lou Williams and Jrue Holiday led their team to the glorious victory by scoring 17 and 15 points respectively for the Sixers. Jodie Meeks scored 14 points for the Sixers, who bounced back from a rare home loss in fine style.
"We've always been good at bouncing back," Holiday said.
The Smith’s, who happen to be the co- owner of the Sixers, had front row seats to witness the triumph. Will Smith acknowledged the rhythmically chanting of the fans saying “We’ve got Will Smith” with mega smiles.
With another victory under their belt, the Sixers, who never trailed, improved their record to 9-2 at home.
Commenting on that, Elton Brand said that “I think it can be great for us coming down the stretch to get out to 20-point leads and have the bench come in and sustain those leads. Hopefully, we'll be much fresher because of it."
Sixers dominated the Bobcats from the start of the game; they set off with a spring in their step and took a 14-3 lead by the mid of first quarter. They maintained their hegemony till the end of first quarter scoring 23-10.
It seemed as if the Bobcats were novices to the game while contending against the mighty Sixers, Philadelphia, with players like Williams, Holiday and Meeks, baffled their opponents with their evasive manoeuvres and the score board
kept on ticking over.
By the mid of second quarter, the Sixers were ahead with a 30-19 lead, and it seemed as if the Bobcats have no answer to the rage of Philadelphia.
The only good thing for the Bobcats was the performance of rookie Kemba Walker, who scored 14 points, but that was not enough to challenge the 76ers.
The Sixers kept on hitting and hitting hard and by the end of the 2nd quarter the score was 59-37, which eventually by the end of third it reached 77-51. Ostensibly, Bobcats did try to hang on but they were simply not
a match for the home side. The game ended with an 89-72 score line in favour of the Sixers.
A major talking point of the evening was Bobcats coach Paul Silas display of soccer skills. Silas apparently lost it there and out of sheer desperation kicked the basketball. Consequently on the count of two technical offenses,
he was ejected while there were 4.38 left in the second quarter.
"I just kind of lost it out there," Silas reflecting on the incident said. "I said something I shouldn't have said and then kicked the ball. That won't happen anymore. I can't afford to let that happen. Everyone loses it every
now and then, and I did”.
