Philadelphia 76ers hand 15th straight loss to Charlotte Bobcats with a 98 – 89 win – NBA Recap
On Monday night, the visiting Philadelphia 76ers handed over a 98 – 89 defeat to Charlotte Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena. With the loss, Bobcats plight continued as they surrrendered their 15th
consecutive game of the NBA season and it now looks like that they have nested permanently at the bottom of Eastern Conference.
Corey Maggette was the highest scoring player for Bobcats as he netted 22 and with 21 points Kemba Walker remained prominent for his team. Forward Reggie Williams had 14 and reserve Byron Mullens scored 13 for Charlotte. These
numbers though couldn’t suffice as Charlotte failed to snap out of the longest losing streak in the NBA this season.
It was a poor shooting night for Bobcats as they netted 41.1% from the floor and shot 73.3% from the charity stripe. They once again failed to protect their paint as Sixers scored 42 of their points in the red.
Bobcats shot less than 34% from the field in the opening quarter and eventually found themselves on a double digit trail by its end. Jrue Holiday netted Philadelphia's first 8 points, hitting his first four shots from the field.
By the end of the segment, the Sixers were leading 28-17.
In the 2nd stanza, the Bobcats remained unsuccessful to scratch off the deficit, however paced by Mullens 9 points and a late 8-2 run in the frame, they did manage to score 28 and kept the visitors at 27. The double
digit lead remained intact for Sixers as they capped off the segment with a 55-45 advantage.
A slower paced third quarter had few turning moments in it. The Sixers scored 16 and Bobcats netted 22. However Bobcats blew the chance to tie or take the lead late in the frame, as Matt Carroll lost control over the ball during
a drive to the rim with 4.5 seconds in hand, with 69-67 score.
After a loose ball foul Sixers made 2 successive free throws and augmented their lead to 4 points as the final score at the end of 3rd frame, 71-67.
Bobcats never got the chance to come that close again. In the final quarter, with an early 6-0 run Philadelphia stretched their lead to 77-67 and maintained the double digit lead throughout.
Sixers scored 27 points in the last 12 minutes and as the clock expired Bobcats received their 25th loss of the season.
Lou Williams was the catalyst behind Philadelphia’s victory as he netted 23 points; he is developing the repute of one of NBA’s most dangerous 6th man, averaging 19.8 points per game coming off the bench in the last
five games.
"We have this saying that you have a starring role on this team, no matter what that role is," Williams said. "I've been able to do that and give us a spark. It's been one of my better years. I've been very pleased with the role
I've been playing."
Thaddeus Young scored 20 and Jrue Holiday had 19 while Jodie Meeks recorded 11 points in the 20th victory of Philadelphia.
