Philadelphia 76ers improve to 4-2; Overpower Detroit Pistons 96-73 - NBA Recap
Philadelphia 76ers did not disappoint the capacity crowd that had gathered at Wells Fargo Center to support their home team.
In what was their first home game of this compressed season, the 76ers put up a brilliant show and used a fourth quarter muscle to down Detroit Pistons 96-73.
Except the first frame, 76ers were in command throughout.
They displayed rock solid defence and kept Pistons under pressure throughout the next two frames. Pistons however, showed some resistance in the fourth quarter and by scoring quickly, came as close as 60-66, however an outstanding
26-10 run, rattled by 76ers midway through the deciding frame helped them in regaining the command and in ending the game in style.
Jodie Meeks led the winning team with 21 points on 7 for 13 from the floor including 4-for -8 from the downtown. Coach Doug Collins heaped praise on Meeks;
"Jodie Meeks was unbelievable tonight and he was really struggling early in the season. To see what he did is so gratifying because he's a huge part of what we do."
However it was not him alone who stole the show tonight. Spencer Hawes, who is emerging as a league’s new double-double machine, was once again phenomenal with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
He received a massive ovation from the noisy crowd at the end of the game.  Excited with his own and team’s performance so far in the competition, he added
"We feel really good about ourselves. We feel like we can improve, but we're off to a nice start."
The reserve Sixers played their part to perfection as well. Louis Williams pounded 16 while Thaddeus Young drained 15 and grabbed 7 boards for Philadelphia, who shot 45.9 from the floor and 13 for 16 from the charity stripe. They
out rebounded Pistons 49-42 and outmatched them in the assists 23-18 as well.
Pistons were disastrous from the long range, missing all their shots.
Center Greg Monroe paced the Pistons with a game high 22 points on 6 for 7 from the free throw line while Brandon Knight, Jason Maxiell and William Bynum finished with 10 apiece. Austin Daye struggled throughout and ended with
just 4 points on a meagre 2 for 11 from the floor.
