Philadelphia 76ers interested in L.A Clippers Chris Kaman in exchange for Andre Iguodala – NBA News
In the past month or so, many rumours have been circulating about the Philadelphia 76ers being finally ready to trade Andre Iguodala this season. Iguodala’s future has been a constant subject of for many seasons now but each time Philadelphia refused to put the player on the trade market.
However now, it seems that the Sixers are finally willing to listen to offers. Philadelphia consider centre as a weak position on their roster and are looking for a quality big man to come in if Iguodala is to leave the franchise. Rumours circulated earlier that the Sixers were in discussions with the Golden State Warriors for Monta Ellis in exchange of Iguodala, but now the Chris Kaman trade seems to have taken centre stage.
The Los Angeles Clippers have two quality big guys in Chris Kaman and the young DeAndre Jordan. It appears that the Clippers are willing to stick with DeAndre and therefore have made Kaman available for a trade.
Kaman is a good offensive player who is a threat in the post and can also sink made range jumpers. He had a terrific season in 2010 but lost much of this year to injury. Still his figures of over 12 points, 1.5 blocks and seven rebounds per game are very respectable.
On the other hand, Iguodala is not exactly the good shooter, but he is tremendous defensive player whose acquisition could go a long way in shoring up Los Angeles’ weak D.
Iguodala is one of the most athletic players around and could form a formidable partner to the Clippers already athletically gifted players like rookie All Star Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. The 6-foot-6 Iguodala was drafted by the Sixers back in 2004 as the 9th overall pick and has been with the team ever since. He averaged around 14 points in the last season and had over one and a half steals per game.
There is a good chance of the trade going through as the Sixers want to offload Iguodala’s large contract that runs until 2014. A trade with Kaman, whose contract ends next year, would give them a lot of breathing space in terms of the salary cap. The Sixers could then sign some free agents in order to bolster the roster.
Kaman’s injury troubles in the last year could make Philadelphia cautious about the trade but there is no denying that the seven-footer is a good player and fits the criteria for the Sixers search of a quality centre. They could also ask for more talent or cash in return for Iguodala although the Clippers are unlikely to accept such a proposal. The two players share a common agent in Rob Pelinka.
