Philadelphia 76ers land Nick Young from Los Angeles Clippers as they part ways with Louis Williams – NBA News
The Philadelphia 76ers have reached an agreement with Nick Young over a one year contract that will pay Young $6 million for his services. Young’s agent Mark Bartelstein told Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports that the deal is done and Young will play for
the Sixers next season. Earlier, it was learnt that the Sixers had decided not to pursue backup guard Louis Williams after he had decided to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Sixers last month.
Williams signed a 5 year contract with the Sixers in 2008 and the next season would have been his final of the contract which would have paid him $5.35 million. However, Williams averaged 14.9 points and 3.5 assists this past season, both career highs and
had a tremendous year with the Sixers. He then decided to opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent. The Sixers decided not to pursue Williams for a new contract and he tweeted on Friday that he will not be returning to the Sixers for
next season.
Young will likely take over the position of Williams as an off the bench scoring option. He started his career with the Washington Wizards and played with them for 5 seasons before being traded to the Clippers last season. He averaged 17.4 points for the
Wizards in the 2010-2011 season and 16.6 points in the 40 games he played for the Wizards in the 2011-2012 season.
After arriving in Los Angeles, Young played 22 games but could only manage 9.7 points per game. His field goal percentage also dropped to 39.4% as he struggled to adjust in his new team.
Now, Young moves to a young team that is coming off a spectacular season where they reached the Eastern Conference Semi Finals and were one win away from reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. Young will move into a two guard rotation with Evan Turner of
the Sixers.
It will be interesting to see if Young can find his old touch that had him averaging double digit points for the Wizards on a regular basis. The Sixers could surely use some help on the offense, particularly from the bench.
