Philadelphia 76ers own the Boston Celtics after halftime – Third Quarter Breakdown: NBA Playoffs 2012
At the end of the third quarter of the game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers, the Phillies made their way back into the contest, living up to their reputation of
a strong third quarter team.
Philadelphia outscored the Celtics 27-20 in the frame to take a 60-56 lead before going into the fourth quarter.
Jrue Holiday managed to get his total up to 12 points for the game; Elton Brand has chipped in with 11 so far and Andre Iguodala was also been able to cross the double figure mark by getting 10 points.
The second best sixth man in the NBA, Louis Williams came alive in the period. He drives into the high traffic Boston lanes were very much the reason behind Philadelphia changing hands on the lead. Williams scored 7 point and dished
out 4 assist till the third quarter.
It took almost a minute for the offensive proceedings to start off in the third quarter as Brandon Bass knocked down two free throws at the 11:17 mark. These were Bass`s first points for the Celtics after getting 6 in the first
quarter of the contest.
On the other hand, after a 1 point outing in the second quarter of the game, Elton Brand resumed his scoring tally by knocking down a jump shot. From that point till the 6:50 mark in the period, Sixers put together an 11-3 run
to take a 46-41 lead in the ball game.
The highlight sequence of the third quarter came within the time span of one minute -
from 6:50 to the 6:12 mark - Iguodala drove to the basket and hammered in a poster over Pierce. In the same minute, with Rondo making a layup in between, Pierce went the other way to respond with a spectacular and one play to even up the scores at 46.
The Sixers continued to pile the pressure for the remaining time in the period and by the end of it were leading 6 points. They forced 7 turnover on the Celtics in the third and would have been up by 6 heading into the last 12
minutes had it not been for a Rajon Rondo fade away in the final second to make the score 56-60.
