Philadelphia 76ers snap a five game skid; Trounce Detroit Pistons 97-68 - NBA Recap
With 6 players in double figure index Philadelphia 76ers snapped 5-game losing streak with a dash, as they out gunned Detroit Pistons, 97-68 on their turf.
Thaddeus Young was on song as he led his team by scoring 20 points and 8 rebounds coming off the bench and Louis Williams had 13 in the game. Forward Andre Iguodala and Jodie Meeks had 12 apiece while Elton Brand and Jrue Holiday
netted 10 points each.
Philadelphia had a good shooting night as they shot 88.9% from the free throw line and hit 50.0% from the floor. Their coach Doug Collins was all praise for his players and narrated how the All-Star break helped his team refocus.
"Fresh legs and fresh minds -- it's something I always talk about. I just thought our guys played fresh tonight and that's what I was hoping for."
On the other hand, only 2 players could hit double figure index for Detroit Pistons with Greg Monroe on top having 20 points and 8 rebounds along with Rodney Stuckey, who chipped in with 17 points in the 25th loss of
the season for Pistons.
Philadelphia dominated the game completely and never trailed after the first 6:48. The game remained close in the opening frame and after some back and forth action it was tied at 8 apiece with 8:47 in hand. With a jumper and hook
shot by Monroe, Pistons took the 12-8 advantage.
The Sixers however replied that with a 12-6 run that placed them ahead, 20-14. Pistons tried to eat away the lead with a 6-2 run at the end of 1st frame and by the end of it, Philadelphia were up only by a 22-20 lead.
With an 11-0 run early in the 2nd period, the Sixers took the lead of 33-20. The away side struggled to reduce the gap as their offense was shut down by Philadelphia. With 04:26 in hand the Pistons were on a double digit
trail with 40-26. At halftime, they were behind by 50-34.
Detroit came back with a 10-2 run in the 3rd quarter that helped them to reduce the deficit down to 67-49, but with 6 in a row from Williams and an icing from Young, the Sixers capped off the segment with 75-53 advantage.
Philadelphia then reeled off a 11-0 spurt in the 4th and carved out a 86-57 lead with 6:34 to expire.
It was followed by another 7-0 run burst as the Sixers claimed a 93-59 lead with only 3:48 in hand. To console their shattered ego Pistons concluded the game with a 9-4 run but that didn’t inflict any dent on the huge deficit as
the Sixers recorded their 21st victory of the season.
Detroit Coach was greatly exasperated by his team’s performance;
"When you see a team with 17 steals, it is pretty obvious what happened, they averaged 21 points off our turnovers in the first two games, so our goal was to make them play against our set defence. Of course, that didn't happen."
