Philadelphia 76ers swingman Andre Iguodala not very confident about the 2011-12 season – NBA News
A week after the league filed two lawsuits against the National Basketball Players Association, Miami Heat star player LeBron James lifted the spirits somewhat by saying that he is still hopeful that the union and franchise owners
will reach to an agreement over new Collective bargaining agreement or CBA in time.
The key reason behind Iguodala not being optimistic about the upcoming season was the lawsuits made against the players by the league after the first meeting since the lockout ended in a most bizarre way. According to the league,
the NBPA has threatened them on more than two dozen occasions that they will dissolve the union and will drag the matter into court so they can have a new agreement according to their desire.
Iguodala said “I knew it would be similar to football just because I knew both sides were watching. I think the owners jumped the gun early and were just trying to beat us to the punch as far as going to the courts, so we will
see what happens. As far as decertifying, there are pros and cons to both. I think we are still weighing our options as players, but it may come to that.
However Philadelphia 76ers ace swingman Andre Iguodala thinks otherwise. Iguodala maintained that even though the league enjoyed a wonderful last season, both in terms of quality and financial perks, he knew all along that the
negotiations will be hard to settle.
“We are supposed to have a few meetings coming up in a few different cities, with a big one coming up in Los Angeles. We will decide something there I believe.”
If the players decide to decertify, the league has made it clear that it will void their contracts and as a result of that many players including Iguodala can lose big amount in terms of pending salary that the Sixers owe him.
Iguodala signed a six-year contract with the Sixers three years ago which was worth around $82 million and if the lockout wipes out the entire next season, then he would lose $13.5 million. In case Andre stays with Philadelphia
then he would get $15.9 million.
So with this with this kind of money and three years remaining in his contract, it wouldn’t be possible for the 27 year old to take a chance to sign the deal with any international team. Therefore, Iguodala knows that he have to
play his cards very carefully.
