Philadelphia 76ers thump the New Jersey Nets 105-87; Secure a playoff spot – NBA Recap
On Monday night at the Prudential Center, Newark, NJ, the visiting Philadelphia 76ers cruised to an easy 105-87 win over the New Jersey Nets. This tyrannizing win for the Sixers helped them sneak into the playoffs and are now guaranteed
some post season action with 2 games to spare.
Jrue Holiday, Elton Brand and Thaddeus Young led the charge for the Sixers with 15 points each on the night.  Andre Iguodala was not far behind as he finished the game with 14 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. Evan Turner and Lou
Williams, both came off the bench to notch up 13 and 11 points respectively.
Rookie guard, MarShon Brooks was the leading scorer with 18 points. Kris Humphries followed Brooks up with 16 points and 12 rebounds while Gerald Wallace played well for 11 points in the game. Johan Petro and Armon Johnson, both
came off the bench to record 10 points each in the game.
For the Nets, it was their 5th consecutive loss, not the happiest of notes to sign off in their last game ever at New Jersey. The Nets will be moving to Brooklyn before the start of next season and will be calling the
Barclays Center their home.
Even though the Nets out rebounded the Sixers 35-33, but the visiting side made up for it by their assertiveness from inside the paint as they outscored their hosts 44-26 in that department.
New Jersey`s only lead of the night came in the start of the first quarter when they led by 3-0. From that point onward, it was all Philadelphia. They started off with a 15-2 run to establish a foot hold in the game and never looked
back.
Sixers were able to quickly take their advantage into double-figures and after the first 12 minutes were leading by 31-18. A similar script was followed in the second quarter as the Sixers found it very easy to convert possession
into baskets. The Nets were able to get the advantage down to 8 deep, 48-36, but that was as close as it got in the first half.
On the last possession for Philadelphia, Brand was able to gather a rebound and put it back in to take the lead back to double figures, the score 53-43 in Sixers favour.
Some end to end action early in the third quarter saw the Sixers stay ahead by 10 inside the first four minutes. Iguodala slipped in a pair from the stripe to make it 61-49, but in the next four minutes, the Nets decided to turn
things around in their favour. They managed to put together a 13-2 run, capped by a turnaround jumper from Gerald Wallace, to make this one a 1 point game at 62-63.
However the Sixers put an end to that rally with 6 unanswered points to regain control of the game. In the final two minutes of the third quarter, the Sixers were able to maintain their advantage and were leading 76-68 before going
into the fourth.
Indiana took their advantage to double figures quickly in the fourth period and were never troubled again. The outscored the Nets by 10 points in that frame, enabling them to take this game by a huge margin of 18 points.
