Philadelphia Eagles’ Asante Samuel returns home with hopes of winning Super Bowl – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive back, Asante Samuel, has said that the team wants to win the Super Bowl in the next National Football League (NFL) season and the player sees himself as an important member of the winning squad.
Upon his return to the NovaCare Complex to participate in the team’s offseason workout programme, Samuel was asked about reports surrounding different teams contacting Eagles for the player’s possible trade.
Samuel did not take those reports very seriously, but they did attract his attentions slightly. However, he wants to keep his focus on his performance and rather than worrying about his prospects with the team.
He said:
"Any time your name comes up, of course you're going to pay attention. It's my future. I'm not going to dwell on it or whatever, but I just know the Eagles' main focus is to win a Super Bowl and I think I'm an important part of that, so we'll see how it
goes."
Samuel started his professional NFL career with New England Patriots in 2003. After playing four seasons with the Pats, he signed a one-year tender with the team became a free agent after playing for another season.
Soon after becoming a free agent, he was signed by the Eagles on a six-year, $56 million deal. He has played four seasons with the Eagles and he was given starting role in all of them.
Last season, he played and started 14 games in which he registered a total of 34 tackles.
Samuel has only played for two NFL teams and after spending four years with Eagles, he loves Philadelphia more than any other place and wants to continue his association with the city and the team.
He said:
"Of course, I love it here. This is my home. I've never been to a place I love more than Philadelphia. It's up to management. I want to be here. I've always voiced that opinion. It's up to them."
Eagles finished the last NFL season after winning eight games in the regular season and were unable to qualify for the playoffs despite the presence of many veterans in the side. Samuel is not the only one to think that Eagles will live up to the expectations
in the next season, but the true credibility of these claims will be proven on the field.
