Philadelphia Eagles’ Evan Mathis puts focus on taking care of his body – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ guard, Evan Mathis, has said that he is focused on taking care of his body during the offseason as he believes it will help him stage  better performance in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
Mathis joined the Eagles last year on a one-year deal. After the end of the last season, he became a free agent and attracted many suitors.
However, Mathis preferred returning to Philadelphia and re-signed with the Eagles who gave him a five-year contract.
Last year, the NFL lockout prevented the players from training with their team coaches but Mathis stayed in shape owing to a heavy workout he did with individual trainers.
Now with a chance of working out with the trainers during the organised team activities (OTAs) and later during the training camp, Mathis wants to utilise the opportunity to stay fit throughout the upcoming season.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Mathis believes that intense workout will keep his body fit for a longer period of time. He said:
"If you take care of yourself in the offseason, take care of your body, then it's definitely more suited to take the punishment during the season. If you're not taking care of yourself, your body can be weaker, your joints weaker, and you're more susceptible
to injury. I'm going to keep taking care of my body. Sometimes it's just luck and timing, but you've got to do your part to take care of your body.”
Eagles were unable to qualify for the playoffs last year despite huge expectations and like all other players of the team Mathis also believes that they will meet those expectations this year.
He mentioned that the team has plenty of talented and experienced players who can help the franchise win its first Super Bowl title.
While pointing out at the presence of good players on the offensive line, he said:
“There's still so much more that we can do. We have a special group of guys and we're looking forward to making the most out of this year.”
Mathis played as the regular starter last year and is expected to get the same role again.
