Philadelphia Eagles’ Jason Babin thrilled about addition of Derek Landri and DeMeco Ryans – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles found their winning momentum back towards the end of the last National Football League (NFL) season. Unfortunately, they were unable to qualify for the playoffs, but their recovery from the earlier slump certainly boosted their morale,
which they wish to carry on in the next season.
In doing so, they are strengthening their line-up by hiring new players and extending contracts of those who are already serving the team well.
Recently, the Eagles have acquired a couple of members for their defensive unit and defensive end, Jason Babin, seems excited about the new acquisitions.
Last month, Eagles acquired linebacker, DeMeco Ryans, from Houston Texans. Ryans started his professional NFL career with Texans in 2006.
In Ryans’ rookie year, Babin was his teammate at Houston. Now after being reunited with his former teammate, Babin believes that Ryans will bring leadership to the team and said that his presence will improve the performance of the defensive unit.
Babin said:
"I think he's going to bring a lot of leadership to the team. He's a hard working guy and he's not afraid to take charge."
On the other hand, Eagles have also called defensive tackle, Derek Landri, back.
Landri played the last season with the Eagles, but the team released him after the end of the season as both parties were unable to agree on financial terms of a new deal.
After exploring different options in the open market, Landri could not attract attention of any team and eventually agreed to join Eagles on a one-year contract.
Babin admitted that he feared losing Landri. However, Babin added that now that the player is back in the team, he thinks the team will perform well.
Babin said of Landri:
"I was worried about us losing Derek. I called him yesterday and congratulated him. I was pretty excited about that."
Last month, Eagles also gave a five-year, $48.5 million, contract to wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, who was earlier given the franchise tag following the end of his rookie contract with the team.
Eagles have worked on improving their offence and defence in the present offseason and a better performance is expected from the team in the next season.
