Philadelphia Eagles Michael Vick out with damaged rib cartilage
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick expects to be out of the Eagles line up for
one to two weeks after being diagnosed with a rib cartilage injury. The injury took place as Vick ran for the Washington Redskins goal line on Sunday. He was stopped short of the end zone by two Washington defenders. After being sandwiched between the two
defenders Vick was in obvious pain and left the game. Kevin Kolb replaced Vick under centre.
On Monday night, in an interview with WXTG-FM Vick said, “there is some cartilage damage up in there and a small fracture up in there, so maybe a week, maybe two weeks. We’ll have to see.
I’ve always been a quick healer. It won’t be more than one, two weeks hopefully. Hopefully.”
Vick had x-rays taken on Sunday at the stadium. The x-rays were negative and he underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed damage to the cartilage that connects the second and third ribs.
The
Philadelphia Daily News spoke to former Eagles orthopaedist, Dr. Art Bartolozzi, who estimated that recovery from the type of injury that Vick is suffering from would take from two to six weeks.
“This is going to be one of those day-to-day, week to week [injuries]. We’ll just see how he feels along the way,” said Eagles head coach Andy Reid.

Kevin Kolb, who started the season as the Eagles quarterback, will likely by the starter for the Eagles game against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend. Beside Kolb, the Eagles only
other healthy quarterback is rookie Mike Kafka.
There has been talk that the Eagles are open to bringing Jeff Garcia back to the team if the injury to Vick proves to be long term or if Kolb struggles.  Garcia is currently playing for
the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. Reports indicate that the 40-year-old Garcia is available to any team willing to pay the Nighthawks $150,000 for his contract.
