Philadelphia Eagles OC Marty Mornhinweg hopes QB Nick Foles performs well – NFL News
With the chances of Philadelphia Eagles starting with quarterback Michael Vick in Week 11 game against Washington Redskins getting dimmer, it is expected that rookie quarterback Nick Foles will get his first National Football League (NFL) start after making
his debut against Dallas Cowboys in Week 10 game during which Vick got injured.
Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, whose prime responsibility now is to extract the best possible gains out of the rookie, is hopeful that Foles will adjust into the starting role nicely, if Vick is unable to play.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Mornhinweg has highlighted certain areas of Foles’ strength and said that he will try to utilise them against Redskins. The offensive coordinator said:
“As far as volume, we’ve talked several times already. I know, he knows and the rest of the football team knows that there are certain things he can do very, very well. We’ll play to what we think and what he thinks his strengths are.”
Appreciating Foles’ talent, Mornhinweg said:
“(He’s) tough, both physically and mentally. We certainly had to dig, if you remember, and we talked about that after the draft. He is certainly built the right way. We’ll see what happens. I know he is excited about the opportunity."
Currently on a five-game losing streak, Eagles have very little or no hopes of qualifying for the playoffs this season as well, because New York Giants and Cowboys are ahead of them in National Football Conference (NFC) East.
Eagles’ recent defeats have come against Pittsburgh Steelers (16-14), Detroit Lions (26-23 OT), Atlanta Falcons (30-17), New Orleans Saints (28-13) and Cowboys (38-23).
If Foles start against Redskins and helps the team to end the losing streak, it will be a remarkable achievement for the rookie. He already has one loss to his credit as the Eagles were defeated by the Cowboys last week.
A victory for Eagles will also give some respite to the fans who are frustrated and disappointed over the team’s effort during the past few seasons. Some of them have even called for firing head coach Andy Reid.
