Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick receives thumb injury – NFL News
Although Philadelphia Eagles were able to top Pittsburgh Steelers (24-23) in their first preseason game on Thursday, August 09, 2012, they received a setback as their quarterback Michael Vick left the field owing to a thumb injury.
Vick left the field in the second quarter after hurting his left thumb. The injury came when he hit it on the helmet of his teammate Jason Kelce.
Vick was in severe pain after receiving the injury, but he hoped that it was nothing serious and that he would be able to practise soon.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Vick said:
“I did the same, similar type of thing last year against Dallas, but I was able to come back the next week and play. But this time I heard a pop. Thankfully it was because of the collision; not because of a broken bone.”
Eagles are going to play their next preseason game against New England Patriots on Monday, August 20. They will face Cleveland Browns on Friday, August 24, while they will host New York Jets on Thursday, August 30.
Vick has hoped to be available for all these games.
Meanwhile, Eagles got a good start to their preseason campaign as they defeated the Steelers after a close encounter.
Eagles were unable to perform well at the start of the game, but they combined well to outscore the Steelers later.
In the first quarter, Steelers scored a field goal and got the lead. They scored a touchdown and another field goal in the second quarter as Eagles struggled to get their first scoring move.
However, the second half of the game belonged entirely to Eagles. In the third quarter, Eagles got two touchdowns against Steelers’ one, while Eagles got a touchdown and a field goal against Steelers’ one field goal in the final quarter.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid was satisfied with the team’s overall performance. He said after the game:
“It is always good to see at the end of a game the veteran players are into it when the young guys are playing. That's exciting during a preseason game. They were cheering on the young guys, and they were excited to be there. I appreciate their support too in this situation.”
