Philadelphia Eagles’ WR DeSean Jackson relieved and focused after new deal – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, has already made it clear that he is not going to repeat his last year’s actions that brought him in the line of the fire and now he has asserted that he is going to stay focused on the upcoming National
Football League (NFL) season by participating in all the team activities.
Last year, Jackson missed the team’s training to press his demand for getting a new deal from the team. He was into last year of his rookie contract and needed job security.
However, that did not happen and he had to play the entire season with uncertainty about his future. The expiring contract kept on distracting him and his performance also stayed below par.
After the season, Eagles and Jackson worked out a new deal that guaranteed the player’s long-term association with the franchise on a handsome salary.
Now that he has received the much needed job security, Jackson has said that he is planning on attending all the team activities and training sessions before the start of the season.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jackson is relieved after getting the new contract and said of his last year’s performance:
“It was a tough year for myself, had a lot of struggles, had a lot of things that just took me off of my game and my focus.”
He added:
“This year, a lot of that has just been removed, and I'm able to focus and be comfortable and be confident that I'm at a place where I'm wanted. I just really want to be able to bring a championship to the city."
Not only that, he recently advised his teammate, LeSean McCoy, who is also in his final year of contract with the team, not to miss any training session and act like the way he did a year ago.
Meanwhile, Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid, has also said that Jackson can now focus on improving his performance.
The head coach said:
“These are young guys, and so you have that stress of the second [NFL] contract. There's so much emphasis put on that, and so that part has been relieved from his mind.”
