Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson set to return
Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver DeSean Jackson has been cleared to play after suffering a concussion on 17 October. He should be in the lineup this Sunday, 7 November, against the Indianapolis Colts.
Jackson suffered a vicious blow from Atlanta Falcons’ cornerback, Dunta Robinson, in a 31-17 Philadelphia win. The league fined Robinson $50,000 for the hit in their continuing effort to crack down on hits to the head.
Jackson compared the hit to a car accident, and he lost consciousness afterward. It was his second concussion in as many years.
He participated in full practice on Wednesday and Thursday, and barring a setback, he will return to action after having missed only one game, a 37-19 loss to the Tennessee Titans on 24 October (last week was the team’s bye week).
"Hopefully, I can play," said Jackson. "I want to."
He’ll be wearing a new helmet that is specifically designed to prevent concussions. The new helmet, manufactured by Schutt, has additional cushioning that should help protect Jackson and others from sustaining head injuries.
"I don't know, man. I haven't played a game yet. It feels better, a little bit," said Jackson, when asked how the new helmet felt.
So far this season, Jackson has compiled 395 yards on 19 catches with three touchdowns. He is second on the team in receiving yards, and the team missed him in their loss to the Titans. Quarterback Kevin Kolb completed a season low 54.2 per cent of his passes
in the game.
In Jackson’s absence, Jason Avant had a season high six catches, but he couldn’t replace the deep threat that Jackson provides for the team.
Last year, Jackson caught 62 passes for 1156 yards for nine touchdowns in 15 games.
