Philadelphia Eagles WR Mardy Gilyard happy to be back – NFL News
After playing what he thinks was the best football of his career this offseason, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Mardy Gilyard was disappointed on not being able to make it to the Eagles final 53-man roster for the 2012 regular season.
However, injuries to some players have paved the way for Gilyard’s arrival in Philadelphia again as the Eagles prepare to face one of the strongest defensive units of the league, Baltimore Ravens, in their Week 2 game.
Against Ravens, Eagles just cannot leave any flaw in their offensive and defensive lines and since Riley Cooper and Jeremy Maclin are suffering with injuries, Eagles thought it prudent to call Gilyard back.
Gilyard was impressive in the Eagles’ successful preseason as he scored a total of two touchdowns after catching nine passes for 151 yards in all four preseason games that the Eagles won.
On his return, Gilyard admitted that he was dejected after not being able to make it to the regular season roster earlier, but he is delighted to receive the opportunity now and hopes to extract maximum gains out of it.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Gilyard said of his preseason performance and failure to make it to the regular season roster:
“I was finally where I wanted to be with my routes, catching the ball and getting some yards after the catch. It was tough not making it. Very hard to take. But I went home to my family, stayed in shape, stayed patient and hoped for another chance and here
I am.”
The receiver said of getting the opportunity now:
“Walking into the NovaCare Complex was just great. Everybody was so glad to see me. It made me feel wanted right away. This is where I want to be -- in this offence, with these coaches and the people here. I'm ready to pick up where I left off."
Eagles managed to win their first game of the season against Cleveland Browns with a very close margin and there were plenty of errors in their performance, especially on the offence. If they are unable to improve their performance, they stand no chance
of defeating the Ravens.
