Philadelphia Eagles and Derek Landri agree to a one-year deal – NFL News
The Philadelphia Eagles have given a one-year contract to defensive tackle, Derek Landri, who became an unrestricted free agent after being released by the team after the end of the last National Football League (NFL) regular season.
After being released by the Eagles, Landri explored different opportunities as a free agent and reportedly received interest from Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the Bucs gave contract to another player, leaving Landri open for other options.
Finally, Eagles came to terms with Landri and offered the deal to the player, who seems pleased to have returned to the side.
Landri commented after getting the new deal:
"It’s a group unlike any other I’ve been around, collegiate or professionally, and it’s a group you want to play for and play with. That’s the biggest pull. As far as the organization, it’s the best organization that I’ve been around.”
He added:
"Those kind of are the big factors as to why I came back to Philadelphia. From what my wife reads to me and my family sending me stuff, I guess I have a pretty big fan base out there, too, and that kind of draws you back a little bit.”
Landri started his professional National Football League (NFL) career in 2007 with Jacksonville Jaguars.
He played three seasons with the Jags and was waived by the team in his third season. After the wavier, Landri was claimed by the Carolina Panthers.
In 2010-11 NFL season, he registered his career-best performance while playing for Panthers. In 16 games of the regular season, he recorded a total of 43 tackles while starting all the games.
Following the season, Panthers released him and he became an unrestricted free agent. Eagles signed him in August 2011, but released him the next month. However, he was re-signed as the Eagles got short of players owing to different injuries.
With Eagles, he played 12 games in the last season and did not start any. However, his performance was not below par as he recorded a total of 21 tackles.
Now after rejoining the team, he is aiming high and wants to bring glory to the franchise. He has said that he considers Eagles as one of the best teams of the league.
