Philadelphia Eagles appoints Todd Bowles, as the team’s secondary coach – NFL News
Todd Bowles is no longer going to serve Miami Dolphins as he was appointed by Philadelphia Eagles to serve as the team’s secondary coach on Monday, January 30, 2012.
A formal announcement in this regard will be made by Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid, on Tuesday.
Bowles served Dolphins at the same position, but was made interim head coach of the franchise after the dismissal of Tony Sparano.
Bowles’ spent three weeks as the interim head coach and the team won two out of three games under him.
However, he eventually parted ways with Dolphins following the appointment of Green Bay Packers’ offensive coordinator, Joe Philbin, as Dolphins’ new head coach.
Bowles started his professional coaching career in 1995 as Green Bay Packers’ player personnel staff.
In 1997, he joined Morehouse College as defensive coordinator/secondary coach and was appointed as defensive coordinator/defensive backs’ coach at the Grambling State University a year later.
His next destination was New York where he spent one year with Jets before joining hands with Cleveland Browns in 2004.
He moved to Dallas Cowboys and served there as secondary coach from 2005-2007 after which he was appointed by Dolphins in 2008.
Bowles’ new team, Eagles, started the present National Football League (NFL) season as one of the contenders of the National Football Conference (NFC) title.
However, the team failed badly and could not even qualify for the playoffs, finishing the season with eight victories and defeats respectively.
After the season it was speculated that Eagles’ defensive coordinator, Juan Castillo, would get fired.
However, now that all the coaching personnel are appointed Castillo is also relieved.
Eagles’ defensive end, Darryl Tapp, was also confused about the appointments.
He said:
"I had no idea what would happen. When you have a season that you don't fulfil a lot of expectations, there are usually going to be major changes. You don't know what's going to happen."
Meanwhile, cornerback, Anthony Henry, who is currently a free agent and has played under Bowles at Dallas and Cleveland, has welcomed the coach’s appointment in Philadelphia.
In an interview he said that:
"With the kind of talent they already have there, he'll make them a better secondary, and they'll have a really successful team next year.”
Eagles are set to kick off their campaign for the next season. The appointment of coaching staff is finalised and the decisions about the upcoming drafts are also made.
One hopes the team would impress the audience in the next season.
