Philadelphia Eagles beat Washington Redskins 34-10 to end season on a positive note–NFL Week 17 Recap
Despite securing a victory last week, Philadelphia Eagles were eliminated from the playoff-race. That failure, however, did not affect their spirits as they came out strong on the field on Sunday to end the season on a positive note by dominating Washington
Redskins 34-10 at the Lincoln Financial Field.
Eagles finished second in the National Football Conference East division after stretching their winning streak to four games.
One wonders what took them so long to get back on the winning ways!
"It's a pretty tough balance, but I think you have to take the good with the bad and the bad with the good and just try to analyse everything that happened and go into this off-season trying to figure out how not to let it happen again,” Eagles’ quarterback,
Michael Vick said.
Vick did not have an ideal start to the game. He, however, accelerated after sending only two of his first eight throws.
He was impressive for the rest of the game, completing 24 passes of 39 attempts for 335 yards while throwing three touchdowns and one interception.
On the other hand, the Redskins were matchless.
Right from the start, they allowed the Eagles to get hold of the game. In the first quarter, Alex Henery scored a 35-yard field goal to put Eagles in-charge.
Late in the second quarter, Chad Hall collected a seven-yard touchdown pass from Vick to take the score to 10-0.
The Redskins got their first scoring move in the third quarter when Rex Grossman sent a 47-yard touchdown pass to Roy Helu.
Alex Henery scored a field goal from 20 yards to ensure that the Eagles maintained healthy lead.
At 13:24 in the fourth quarter, the Redskins reduced the deficit. Graham Gano scored a 27-yard field goal to take the score to 10-13 with the Eagles in lead. The rest of the quarter belonged completely to the Eagles.
At 12:01, Vick sent an impressive 62-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson. Around six minutes later, Vick found Brent Celek from four yards for another touchdown. At 01:56, Dion Lewis managed a nine-yard run to score the third touchdown of the quarter.
The final score settled at 34-10.
The Redskins finished their miserable season with another defeat. They only won five games in the season and finished at the bottom of the NFC East division.
“I thought it was competitive, but they threw that post-route and we had our chances, but obviously we're disappointed to finish that fourth quarter like we did," Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said.
Shanahan, however, backed his players saying that they played good football during the last few games. He hoped that his team would produce better result in the next season.
