Philadelphia Eagles’ centre Jason Kelce paying attention to minor details – NFL News
Despite the National Football League (NFL) lockout, which prevented the players from training with their coaches during the last year’s offseason, Philadelphia Eagles’ centre, Jason Kelce, was able to record relatively good record in his rookie season.
This time around, however, as Kelce prepares to enter into his second professional season, the centre wants to focus on every minor detail that he missed last year due to the lockout.
Last year, he spent most of the time adjusting into the system without having much knowledge of the team’s playbook, but that’s not the case now.
After playing one season, Kelce knows the playing style of the team and can turn his focus towards improving his game-play.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Kelce said of the current offseason:
"Right now, we're just basically starting from scratch, we're learning everything over. The difference is this time I already know the basics and now I can pay attention to the little nuances and minor details that can make a big difference over the course
of a season."
The Eagles have also placed additional responsibilities on Kelce as he has the entire offseason to train before the start of the 2012 season.
He is already taking part in organised team activities (OTAs) and will also attend July’s training camp before the preseason games, which will provide him the due practice for the upcoming season.
Kelce is of the view that the offseason is a great opportunity for every player to get into rhythm and start delivering right from the first game in the next season.
He said:
"It's very beneficial. An offseason I think for any position where a lot of mental duties are involved is important, whether it's the quarterback, the centre, the middle linebacker on defence or the safeties.”
Earlier, Kelce also reflected on his last season’s performance and admitted that despite playing well there were certain flaws in his style and technique.
He mentioned that his performance improved as the season progressed, but said that he wanted to be in better rhythm from the first game of the next season.
It is too soon to tell if Kelce will be able to stage a better performance in the next season, there is no denying the fact that the offseason will certainly help him get in form.
