Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha, hopeful for team’s bright future – NFL News
After spending one year, which was not very successful, with Philadelphia Eagles, cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha, hoped on Thursday, February 16, 2012, that the next season would yield much more positive results for the franchise.
Asomugha, a nine-year veteran, played with the Oakland Raiders for eight years after beginning his professional National Football League (NFL) career with the franchise in 2003.
Last year, he was among a few high-profile acquisitions, whose presence in Eagles’ line-up led many to believe that the team would win at least the National Football Conference (NFC) title.
However, things went the other way round.
Eagles’ start to the season was miserable and the team lost four straight games after winning the season opener.
The Eagles continued to perform on and off that jeopardised their chances for even reaching the playoffs.
And the same thing happened. The Eagles were ruled out of the playoff contention after ending the regular season with eight victories and eight defeats.
However, the noticeable factor was Eagles’ surge late in the season.
The team won its last four games beating Miami Dolphins (26-10), New York Jets (45-19), Dallas Cowboys (20-7) and Washington Redskins (34-10).
Asomugha thinks that despite the failure, the late comeback would certainly help lifting the players’ morale.
While asserting that the players managed to end the season on a positive note after facing tough time earlier on the field, Asomugha said that the team’s future is bright.
He said:
"The fact that we ended up on top in those last four games and the great things that we were able to do as young and as new as we were - coaches and the players included – and the fact that we were able to go through some rough times and finish off the way
we did bodes well for our future.”
He also informed that he was in contact with other players and said that everyone is excited for the next season.
He commented:
"I think everybody is excited about the future of the Eagles. I talk to guys all of the time during the offseason. Everybody's working. Everybody's ready."
No matter what Asomugha claims, the fans and the observers would never forget how Eagles performed in the last season and the next performance will only be judged against the backdrop of the last performance.
