Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie excited about next season – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, joined the team for the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season after being traded by the Arizona Cardinals, but his role was rather restricted after joining the new team.
With the Cards, Dominique played as starter for three straight seasons and with Eagles, he could only start three games while playing 13.
The Eagles already had Asante Samuel and Nnamdi Asomugha playing at the starting positions and they did not want to disturb the formation by introducing Dominique at any regular position.
This is not the case now though. Samuel is not playing for Eagles any more as he has joined the Atlanta Falcons and the field is open for Dominique to take the role of the starter.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Dominique is excited to get the role of the starter in the upcoming season, but he also acknowledges Samuel’s services for the team.
He said of getting the starting role:
"It's mixed feelings with Asante not being here because he is a great player and he was here for a long time. At the same time, I'm excited for my situation and for this defence.”
He added:
“I am not the same kind of player that Asante is. I rely more on athletic ability and speed. Watching Asante all season, he is a student of the game. He has experience and he knows the game.”
Last season, Eagles were not able to qualify for the playoffs as they were unable to develop team chemistry at the start of the season.
Towards the end, however, they found their rhythm back and won quite a few games in a convincing manner. One more victory could have earned them a playoff spot, but that did not happen.
Like other members of the squad, Dominique also thinks that Eagles would display a better performance in the 2012 season and try to win the title.
He said:
“We finished strong last year and that is something to build on. I think we're going to be aggressive and get after it. Whatever they ask me to do, of course I will do it.”
