Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha might return sooner – NFL News
It appears that Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will return to the field sooner than expected.
Although he failed to participate in the practice session on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, Asomugha has been declared to have no concussion symptoms after having a terrible collision on Monday.
The severity of Asomugha’s injury was evaluated by Eagles medical team. According to the Associated Press, Head Coach Andy Reid said:
"Nnamdi has whiplash-type symptoms and a split lip. He didn't have a concussion. He's been tested. Everything's OK there. He wasn't knocked out. That's not what happened when he was hit. He was completely conscious the whole time. But he did get a pretty
good laceration to his lip and the back of his neck is a little bit sore."
Although Asomugha does not have any concussion, Reid remained hesitant to give any specific date for his return.
Asomugha was playing on a seven-on-collided with safety Nate Allen during a play by quarterback Michael Vick, who was trying to throw pass to wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
Both the players went on the ground as fellow teammates and medical team rushed to the scene. Allen said that the collision came unexpectedly. He said:
"Just one of those plays. It happens sometimes. His helmet went into my chest and my forearm caught him a little bit. It happened so fast, it's hard to tell what hit what."
Allen was able to stand up on his feet after a few minutes, but Asomugha remained on the ground motionless.
He was finally able to walk off the practice field with the support of the team trainers. After that he was taken through a cart to the field house near the practice field for a thorough check-up and evaluation.
Eagles signed Asomugha last year as a free agent. He played eight seasons with Oakland Raiders and received three Pro Bowl invitations.
Regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in the league today, Asomugha was drafted by Raiders in the first round (31st overall pick) in 2003.
Last season, Asomugha managed to score 40 tackles and three interceptions.
