Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha ready to be aggressive on defence – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback, Nnamdi Asomugha, who joined the team last year and played on different positions on the defensive line, has said that he will try to be more aggressive in the next National Football League (NFL) season.
Asomugha was one of the players who the Eagles acquired last year to add strength to the team’s roster.
By the looks of the things, Eagles were heading in the right direction after inclusion of many star players, but as look would have it, they were unable to perform well on the field and could not qualify for the playoffs.
Asomugha played as cornerback, but changed his position occasionally to fit in other roles as well. This time around, however, Eagles are coming up with a new strategy and Asomugha has a great role to play in it.
Last year, he started 15 games while playing 16 in which he recorded a total of 40 tackles and three interceptions.
However, Asomugha’s role could increase next year and he seems prepared for it. According to the details present on the team’s official website, he said:
"If that's the case, it's absolutely pleasing to me, but what we were doing last year, I think, was something that I felt eventually would work out. We're still doing some of that, with moving me across the field so I think a year further into it will be
even better.”
Asomugha also said that it would be fun to play more aggressively and follow the new strategy. He said:
"But as far as the other stuff, they'll have us playing a certain way. They want us to be a more aggressive type of defence this year, as opposed to the 'off' coverage that we were doing. It's going to be fun to see how it evolves."
Asomugha started his professional NFL career with Oakland Raiders in 2003. He played for the team for eight seasons and eventually parted ways with them.
He joined the Eagles on a five-year, $60 million deal last year and he is hoping to give his best shot to play an important role in the team’s victory next season in which Eagles will once again start as the National Football Conference (NFC) East title
contenders.
