Philadelphia Eagles expected to keep DeSean Jackson with the franchise – NFL News Update
The team management of Philadelphia Eagles has decided to keep wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, with the franchise for at least one more year, different reports regarding the player’s future suggested on Sunday, February 12, 2012.
Jackson started his professional National Football League (NFL) career after joining hands with Eagles in 2008.
His rookie year was followed by two impressive seasons in which he rushed for over 1,000 yards each.
However, the recently concluded season brought all sorts of troubles for Philadelphia and Jackson too could not save his reputation from getting tarnished.
The Eagles started the season as the National Football Conference (NFC) contenders, but the team lost eight out of its first 12 games.
The late surge improved the record, but was not enough to take Eagles to the playoffs.
Hence, the team was sent packing after the regular season.
Jackson finished the season after playing 15 games in which he rushed for 961 yards.
To make the matters worse, Jackson violated the team’s conduct by missing a team meeting and was benched for one game by head coach, Andy Reid.
Later, he apologised for his action.
After the end of the season, he expressed a desire to stay with the franchise while admitting that his performance was affected by the expiring contract, which, he said, was distracting him.
Jackson’s four-year contract with Eagles is set to end next month and the franchise has three options available in terms of making decision regarding Jackson’s future.
Eagles could give Jackson a contract extension or keep him under the franchise tag. The last option for Eagles and Jackson would be to part ways.
A few days ago when Andy Reid was asked about Jackson’s future, he said:
"We really haven't gotten to that point.”
The coach added:
“We're analysing the free agents, we're analysing what we did, we went through our team then we're going to analyse the draft and then you kind of put all that together and talk through it, where you have a feel on kind of the whole picture of the personnel
side of it."
Although no official announcement has yet been made in this regard, different reports have suggested that the most likely decision would be Eagles giving Jackson the franchise tag, which would keep him with his present team for at least one year.
