Philadelphia Eagles: from ‘Dream Team’ to a failing side – NFL Special (Part II)
Continued from part I...
At Buffalo
Eagles’ next destination was Buffalo.
Already burdened by a three-game losing streak after registering a winning start, the Eagles were under pressure.
The Bills got an early lead in the game after scoring a touchdown in the first quarter.
The Eagles levelled the scores in the second quarter, but the scoring move was followed by two touchdowns from the Bills.
The Bills scored a touchdown and a field goal while the Eagles could only score a touchdown in the third quarter.
The Eagles restricted the opponents from making a scoring move in the final quarter, and scored a touchdown and a field goal, but could not reduce the deficit.
The Bills won the game 31-24, as the Eagles got their fourth consecutive defeat.
At Washington
The Eagles finally managed to snap their losing streak when they toured Washington to play the Redskins.
The team’s overall performance was not very impressive, but the feeble Redskins’ side surrendered in front of the Eagles.
The visitors dominated the first half of the game and were leading by 17 points at the end of the second quarter.
The Redskins scored a field goal and a touchdown in the third and fourth quarter respectively, but still fell seven points behind.
Against Dallas Cowboys
The Eagles displayed much improved game-play against the Cowboys.
The visitors were outsmarted by the Eagles, who scored four touchdowns and two field goals before allowing the only touchdown from the opponents.
Vick completed 21 passes of 28 attempts for 279 yards and threw two touchdowns to receive a quarterback rating of 129.9.
McCoy was also very impressive. He scored two rushing touchdowns and gained a total of 185 yards during the game.
Against Chicago Bears
The Eagles hosted the Bears in the next game.
At the time when the Eagles were seemingly improving and the observers were expecting them to accelerate, the Eagles failed once again.
Their inability to secure the lead continued to bother them against the Bears as well, and eventually cost them the game.
The Eagles were leading, 24-20, by the end of the third quarter. However, the Bills scored a touchdown and a field goal to edge past their opponents and win the game 30-24.
Against Arizona Cardinals
The lowly Cardinals, who had already lost six games in the season before facing the Eagles, were the next ones to overcome the Eagles.
In a low-scoring game, the Eagles got a lead at halftime, but the Cardinals scored two field goals in the final quarter to beat the hosts.
Vick was awful throughout the game. He completed 16 passes of 34 attempts for 128 yards and threw two interceptions. He received a quarterback rating of 32.5 for the game.
At New York
The Eagles had lost six of their nine games when they travelled to New York to play the Giants, who had also beaten them earlier in the season.
Vick did not play the game and Vince Young got a start.
The passing game of both the teams was not up to the mark as Young and Giants’ quarterback, Eli Manning, struggled to find the respective receivers.
The first quarter went scoreless. The Eagles managed to score a touchdown and a field goal in the second to take a 10-point lead, which was reduced to seven points when the Giants scored a field goal in the same quarter.
The Giants scored a touchdown in the final quarter, but this time the Eagles were able to pull a victory, thanks to a touchdown with less than three minutes left on the clock.
