Philadelphia Eagles have a chance to develop a dynasty, says quarterback Michael Vick – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has once again spoken of great optimism about the team’s chances in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season and the player sees the current squad developing into a force to reckon with in future.
Recalling the glorious times of San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, Vick said that the current Eagles’ squad is capable of achieving the stature of those great squads. According to CSNPhilly.com, he said:
"When I look at our football team and what we have on paper, I think about when I was growing up and the great San Francisco 49er teams, the great Green Bay Packer teams, and the great Dallas Cowboy teams, how they just positioned themselves to compete and
be one of the best teams out there."
He added:
"I think we have a chance to be that. I think we have a chance to develop a dynasty.”
This is not a new claim. Every now and then, Eagles’ players keep on bragging about their chances and they usually struggle to live up to the hype.
The 2011 season is a prominent example of Eagles’ failure. Many members of their squad had claimed that Eagles were a “Dream Team” heading into the season, but their dreams were shattered after the team’s miserable start to the season. Eagles won their first
game but lost the next four to damage their reputation badly.
Vick is a bit cautious this time. Eagles were unable to qualify even for the playoffs let alone getting a shot at the Super Bowl last season. At present, he is not making tall claims of winning the Super Bowl in the 2012 season. His focus is on leading the
team to the playoffs, at least. He said:
“I think just getting to the postseason right now is our focus. The Super Bowl is going to come if it's meant to happen.”
As the Eagles prepare for the 2012 season, they have, again, a very good roster. They also face serious threats from other teams of the National Football Conference (NFC) East division, especially the New York Giants who will be the defending champions this
season.
