Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid, dodges question on DeSean Jackson’s future – NFL News
Halfway through the National Football League (NFL) present season, no one knew what would be the future of Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, who was in the final year of his rookie contract.
Now that the season is over, one still cannot predict where the ties between Eagles and Jackson will go.
When asked about what the management was thinking in this regard, head coach, Andy Reid, refrained from spilling the beans on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, and said that a decision would be made after a careful analysis of all the related aspects.
"We're going to go through and look at all that," Reid said.
He added:
"We really haven't gotten to that point ... We're analysing the free agents, we're analysing what we did, we went through our team then we're going to analyse the draft and then you kind of put all that together and talk through it, where you have a feel
on kind of the whole picture of the personnel side of it."
Jackson started his professional career with the Eagles in 2008 and rushed for 912 yards with an average of 14.7 yards per catch in the regular season of his rookie year.
The next year, he impressed by maintaining an average of 18.6 yards per carry while rushing for a total of 1,156 yards.
Last year, he had 1,056 yards to his credit, and he successfully held a commendable average of 22.5 yards per catch in 14 games.
This season, Jackson played 15 games and managed 961 yards with an average of 16.6 yards per catch. He was benched for one game by the coach for missing a team meeting.
After being sidelined from the game, he apologised to everyone including the coach and teammates and assured them of not repeating such a mistake in future.
At the end of the season, he had also expressed a desire to stay with the franchise and admitted that the expiring contract remained a cause of distraction for him throughout the season.
Reid said that the management was looking at Jackson’ overall profile including his performance, attitude and a comeback during the last few games of the season.
He commented:
“We're looking at everything right now. We haven't come to any conclusions on anything, but we're going through that.”
If the team management decides against giving a contract extension to Jackson, it could still keep him with for one year after giving him the franchise tag.
