Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid, up for recommending Donovan McNabb – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid, has said that he would recommend former Eagles’ quarterback, Donovan McNabb, who is currently a free agent after being released by Minnesota Vikings, to other teams of the National Football League (NFL).
Reid took over responsibilities as Eagles’ head coach in 1999, the same year when McNabb made his debut after being drafted by the team.
McNabb played for 11 years as Eagles’ quarterback and led the team to four National Football Conference (NFC) East division championships, five NFC championship games and one Super Bowl appearance.
In 2010, Eagles traded McNabb to the Washington Redskins who later traded the player to the Minnesota Vikings in 2011.
With Vikings, he was not very impressive and could only play and start six games last year. He completed a total of 94 passes of 156 attempts for 1,026 yards while throwing four touchdown-passes and two interceptions. He was replaced by a rookie at the starting
position.
Vikings released McNabb after the season on his request and the player became a free agent, hoping to find another team.
However, McNabb, 35, is so far unable to attract any team but Reid still believes that the quarterback has a lot of potential.
While talking on NFL Network's "Total Access", Reid said he would recommend McNabb to other teams.
"I tell them to take him. I still think he can play. I think the world of him, and we had some great years together here. I'm always wishing him the best and a fan of his. I got a chance to see him at Brian Dawkins' retirement (ceremony). He looks good.
He looks physically good. He looks like he could go out and play tomorrow. I would highly recommend (him)."
On the other hand, McNabb thinks that his age is not going to hamper his progress and that he is completely fit and healthy.
Initially, McNabb was willing to join the Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Bears or Houston Texans, but after being released by the Vikings, the player did not get their attention.
Even when Reid is willing to recommend the player to other teams, it might get slightly difficult for the quarterback to attract any team that could give him the starting role.
