Philadelphia Eagles’ head coach Andy Reid: LeSean McCoy brings energy to the game – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles head coach, Andy Reid, has appreciated skills and talents of running back, LeSean McCoy, saying that he brings energy to the game.
Reid was speaking in the light of a five-year contract extension McCoy received from Eagles on Thursday, May 17, 2012, that ensured his association with the team through the 2017 season.
McCoy joined the Eagles in 2009 and has been a vital part of the team’s offensive unit.
In his rookie season, he played 16 games while starting only four. He scored four touchdowns in the season while registering 637 rushing yards.
In the next season, he was given the starting role more often. He played 15 games while starting 13 and rushed for a total of 1,080 yards on 207 attempts for seven touchdowns.
Last year, he was even more impressive. He played and started 15 games and recorded 1,309 rushing yards on 273 attempts while scoring 17 touchdowns.
Eagles were more than happy to grant the contract extension to the player who has also breathed a sigh of relief after signing the deal.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Reid said that he was excited to continue rebuilding the franchise and said:
“We have good, young players here who enjoy playing for the city of Philadelphia. If you're going to be accepted into this city, there's a certain attitude that you need to bring. We felt like we had a great nucleus of guys, LeSean being one of that group.”
While mentioning McCoy’s positive qualities, the head coach said:
“He does it all, so this isn't a one-dimensional running back. This is a running back that can not only carry the football for you but can catch the football as well as the wide receivers and he can block and loves playing the game. That brings great energy
to this football team."
Meanwhile, the move is said to have concluded the team’s offseason plans as far as hiring, firing and extension related matters of the players are concerned.
Eagles are now shifting their focus on the organised team activities (OTAs) and training camp to prepare for the preseason games before finally kicking off the 2012 regular season.
