Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid accepts blame for team’s slump – NFL News
After a 7-42 Week 17 defeat against the New York Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles have ended their season on the worst note of 4-12 under head coach Andy Reid, who has now taken complete responsibility of the team’s failure this season.
The Eagles had been considered a Super Bowl contender before the start of the season, but they failed to even qualify for the playoffs. Moreover, they finished at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East, and had a pretty disturbing division
record as well.
According to the details present on the Eagles’ website, Reid said of the failure:
"I take blame for the year.”
He added:
"Things didn't bounce the way we needed them to bounce. I'll take that. It's my responsibility to make sure we get there."
Many reports have now started indicating that after serving the franchise for more than a decade, Reid might not be with the Eagles next season.
The Eagles finished the 2011 season at 8-8 and could not qualify for the playoffs last year. Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had already said that another 8-8 season would not be acceptable to him, and keeping the 4-12 record in view, it is speculated that the
owner might fire Reid.
According to different reports, Reid has one year left on his contract and he is interested in finishing his term with the Eagles, but the head coach has also expressed willingness to accept the owner’s decision if he decides to fire Reid.
Reid maintained that he wanted to finish the season even beyond the bar set by the owner. He said:
"Our bar was higher than 8-8 for all of us, Jeffrey included.”
A day earlier, some media outlets reported that Reid was gathering staff to form a coaching unit that would assist him on joining any other franchise. There are many teams in the league that might get rid of their coaching staff after this season and Reid’s
record barring this season is more than enough to earn him a head coaching job at some other franchise.
No official word has yet been given but some developments are expected to surface this week in this matter.
