Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid could lose job after the season – NFL News
After 12 weeks of the season, one thing is certain: the much-hyped Philadelphia Eagles are going to miss yet another playoff opportunity.
However, this time their failure is expected to result into severe consequences. The team’s downfall will eventually translate into a lot of roster and front office changes.
It could have happened last year as well, but for the Eagles’ late surge that allowed them to finish the season 8-8, a record that the Eagles owner has already said is unacceptable for this season.
As it turns out, Eagles are struggling this season even badly. After Week 12, they stand at bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East with 3-8 record and on a seven-game losing streak.
Even if they manage to win their next five games, Eagles will once again finish a season at 8-8. So it is certain that Eagles are not going to exceed the expectations of their owner let alone meeting them.
In this case, a prominent entity that is supposed to come in the line of fire is head coach Andy Reid, who has been with the franchise since more than a decade.
Although Reid has repeatedly denied that he is not worried about his job, he has never denied having threats to his position.
In an attempt to better the team’s record, Reid recently fired Juan Castillo, who was serving as defensive coordinator, but the abrupt move in the middle of the season did not help their cause.
As far as Reid is concerned, he might not be sent packing in the middle of the season, as suggested by some recent media reports, but there is no denying that his role will be evaluated thoroughly once the season is over.
Eagles’ declining record, their inability to consistently make the playoffs and their failure in winning the Super Bowl title will surely be considered when the decision-makers plan the future strategy for the franchise.
A bird’s eye view suggests that Eagles might not only fire Reid, but also some other members of the roster, including some veterans. Some reports have also hinted at threats to job security of veteran quarterback Michael Vick.
However, it is still soon to absolutely determine that Vick and Reid will not be with the franchise next season.
