Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid discusses quarterback Michael Vick’s concussion – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has said that quarterback Michael Vick’s concussion that forced him out of Week 10 game against Dallas Cowboys is “pretty significant” and that the decision regarding the player’s participation will be made during
the next couple of days.
After being injured, Vick was replaced by rookie quarterback Nick Foles, who made his National Football League (NFL) debut.
Reid has not yet ruled Vick out of Week 11 game against Washington Redskins, but his remarks imply that it is not going to be easy for the veteran quarterback to return to the field soon.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Reid said of Vick’s injury status:
"I think we'll know here in the next couple days. I think we'll have a pretty good idea. The thing I'm telling you now is I think it's a pretty significant concussion there."
If Vick does not get fit before the game against Redskins, Foles might get a chance to make his first NFL start. The rookie was brilliant during the preseason and performed relatively well against Dallas; however, he struggled with accuracy and turned the
ball over at crucial moments.
Reid confirmed that Foles will continue to practise with the first team as long as Vick is out. Against Cowboys, Foles was 22 of 32 for 219 yards. He threw a touchdown pass and also sent an interception. The Eagles head coach said of the rookie:
“I'd tell you he did a nice job of keeping his eyes down the field when he was under pressure, made some nice plays there. There were some plays that you'd like to have back, but I thought he did a pretty good job with that. I thought he got the ball out
on time. He handled pressure well when it was in his face and he didn't move."
At present Eagles are on a five-game losing streak and they have very little or no hopes of reaching the playoffs. In such a case Vick’s injury is even more tormenting. However, it could be a blessing in disguise for Foles, who could get the taste of the
NFL and prepare himself for future challenges.
