Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has trust in quarterback Michael Vick – NFL News
Even though Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has not been able to live up to the expectations this season despite receiving a lot of chances from the team, head coach Andy Reid still trusts him for the starting role.
However, that could change soon. If Vick is unable to perform well, the Eagles might be compelled to seek alternatives, especially after firing defensive coordinator Juan Castillo.
The decision to fire Castillo says it all and anyone else, a player or an official, can be the next to leave the franchise if the team does not play well now.
Eagles are 3-3 and tied at second spot in National Football Conference (NFC) East with Washington Redskins. They have their bye this week and will resume playing from Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons, who have not lost any game this season.
According to the details present on the team’s website, Reid responded to a question regarding playing Vick as starter and said:
"As I sit here today, he is the starting quarterback. I look at all of the turnovers, go through them and analyse them.”
The head coach added:
"Right now, Michael is the starting quarterback."
Reid’s answer clearly shows that Vick will be held accountable for his flaws. Although the coach has not denied or confirmed, there is a possibility that Eagles are already looking at other options for quarterback position, in case Vick is unable to perform
in the next few games.
Eagles have just 10 games left in the regular season and they want to extract the best possible gains out of them to secure a playoff berth.
If Vick is unable to perform well, he might not retain status of starting quarterback. It should also be noted that at the end of the season Reid might also be sent packing if the Eagles do not finish strong.
Many people are talking about Reid’s decision to fire Castillo, saying that the head coach took the step to prevent his own job. However, Reid does not agree to it. He said:
"If you ask all football coaches in the National Football League, they're going to tell you that that's what you do.”
He added:
“You try to better yourself every day. You want your coaches to better themselves every day. You want your players to hope you have an influence on helping them become the best they can be. That's my job. That's how I go about doing it."
