Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid reflects on loss against Detroit Lions – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ stunning loss against Detroit Lions in Week 6 game has once again given birth to questions related to job security of head coach Andy Reid, who seems unable to correct the players’ direction.
After a slow start, Eagles did well to not only control Lions offence, but also to create scoring opportunities to get past the opponents.
However, Eagles blew away their 10-point lead with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Lions scored a touchdown and a field goal to match Eagles’ score and forced the game to overtime, where they scored another field goal to clinch the victory.
During the final few moves, Eagles looked helpless as the offence struggled to complete scoring drives, while the defence allowed Lions to excel.
Whatever the result of any game is, head coaches are eventually asked for explanations. The same is the case with Eagles, and Reid also knows that things might start getting a little out of hands if the team does not improve immediately.
Reid has taken the responsibility for the team’s defeat against Lions, saying that everyone needs to get better. According to the details present on the team’s website, Reid said of the loss:
"We have to learn how to win football games as coaches and players. That's my responsibility, and obviously we didn't get it done. You have a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, particularly after the slow start that we had offensively, then you have to
take care of it. We didn't do that.”
The head coach added:
"I'll take responsibility for it. I just know that it wasn't good enough all the way around. There were times and places where everyone needs to look themselves in the mirror and get better – me included."
It was Eagles’ second defeat in a row. A week earlier, they had received beating against Pittsburgh Steelers and now Lions have outclassed them.
Overall, it was Eagles’ third defeat in last four games after they got off to a 2-0 start to the season.
Things are not going in the right direction for Eagles and Reid is well aware of that. He said:
"We all have to do better. That's what I can tell you.”
