Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid shares views on defeat against New Orleans Saints – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has highlighted the team’s inability in converting scoring drives into touchdowns as the main reason behind Week 9 loss against New Orleans Saints.
Eagles got five opportunities in the end zone, but they missed them all. Moreover, quarterback Michael Vick once again struggled on the field as he got a low pass completion rate. Vick finished with completing 22 of 41 passes. The quarterback was also sacked
seven times for the loss of 46 yards.
If the offence had performed better, Eagles could have got a chance to win. According to the details present on the team’s website, Reid said of the game:
"When you’re 0-for-5 in the red zone, give up seven sacks, and your tackling is terrible then you’re going to struggle to win football games in this league. As coaches and players, obviously we’ve got to do a better job and that starts with me."
The defence, too, was below par against the Saints, who scored a total of 28 points, while their quarterback Drew Brees was able to complete 21 of his 27 passes.
Reid, however, believes that Eagles are still capable of turning things around. At 3-5 after the first half of the season, Eagles will need to have an exceptional second half to qualify for the playoffs.
Reid is of the view that the mistakes can easily be corrected. He said:
“You stick with your fundamentals and your basics, and you keep practising. Practise hard and correct your mistakes.”
Eagles are going to play their next game against National Football Conference (NFC) East division rivals Dallas Cowboys. Both teams are tied at second spot in the division at 3-5, behind defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants (6-3).
Reid thinks that the Eagles only need one win that could end their losing run and give them an opportunity to initiate a fresh winning streak. He commented:
“In this league, if you can get that one win and get that thing right, you’re able to build on that. We’ve got to focus in on the Dallas Cowboys and make sure we get ourselves right for that game.”
