Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid still backing Michael Vick – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has rubbished the rumours surrounding replacing quarterback Michael Vick, but the head coach has also asserted that the quarterback as well as other players must improve their game to display better performance in
future.
After Week 3 loss against Arizona Cardinals, Reid said when asked about changing his quarterback in future:
“Right now we're with Michael (Vick), and that's what we're doing. We'll evaluate as we go.”
However, the coach has further clarified his stance now, denying the impression that Vick’s job security has threats. During a radio show on 94WIP in Philadelphia, Reid said recently:
"It was the last question. I was finishing up the press conference. Michael's our quarterback. Period. Michael's our quarterback. Listen, does he need to get better? Do we all need to get better? Yes. We're all going to do that."
Vick’s performance is certainly a cause of concern for the Eagles, who have Nick Foles as Vick’s backup. Foles’ performance during the preseason was very impressive and he might well be able to replace the veteran.
Eagles are now 2-1 after three games and although Vick played crucial roles in securing the first two victories, his overall performance did not represent his true class.
In the season opener against Cleveland Browns, Vick had a four-interception game, while he sent two interceptions in Week 2 game against Baltimore Ravens.
Against Cardinals, Vick did not throw any interception, but he was also unable to generate effective playing drives that could have yielded scoring opportunities.
His lacklustre performance led many to believe that Eagles might replace him because they are under a lot of pressure.
Even head coach Andy Reid’s job might be threatened if the Eagles do not qualify for the playoffs this year.
Since there are still more than 10 games left in the regular season, it is too early to predict which team will qualify for the playoffs, but considering the Eagles’ performance in the first three games it is a unanimous view that they need to improve on
offence as well as defence to have any chance of beating other teams of National Football Conference (NFC) East to enter the playoffs.
