Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid still backing quarterback Michael Vick – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has once again extended his support for quarterback Michael Vick, indicating that Vick will remain Eagles’ starter.
A few games earlier when Vick was badly struggling with his accuracy and consistency, rumours started doing the rounds that Vick might lose the starting quarterback position.
Later, Reid confirmed that Vick would continue to play as starter, but that did not help Eagles’ cause either.
At present, Eagles are on a four-game losing streak with the defeats coming against Pittsburgh Steelers (16-14), Detroit Lions (26-23 in overtime), Atlanta Falcons (30-17) and New Orleans Saints (28-13).
After the recent defeat in which Vick once again struggled with his pass completion rate, Reid was asked if Vick would remain the starter for the rest of the season. Although Reid did not give the exact answer, it seems that Vick’s job apparently has not
threat. According to the details present on the team’s website, Reid said:
“Michael is our starter.”
The head coach said of Vick’s performance against Saints:
“He did some good things. There were some things, I’m sure he told you, that he’d like to have back. He did some good things."
Against Saints, Vick threw one interception and was sacked seven times. Reid said of the interception:
“I thought that there’s a fine line there on decisions that have to be made as far as whether it’s defensive holding or a legal play. So, they let that play go. I think the ball was in the spot where, if there wasn’t the aggressive play by the defender,
that it’s probably a touchdown."
When asked if the sacks had been affecting Vick’s elusiveness, Reid shared opposite views, saying that he did not think that hits were affecting the quarterback’s elusiveness. Reid said:
“I mean, he made some nice runs when he was under pressure last night.”
If Eagles are to qualify for the playoffs this year, they have to ignore their 3-5 record of the first half of the season. They must make a fresh start to the second half and treat every game as a must-win.
