Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid still optimistic – NFL News
Even though Philadelphia Eagles are currently on a four-game losing streak, which is their highest under head coach Andy Reid, the coach is of the view that his team is still capable of staging a turnaround.
 Reid said, via ESPN:
"Somewhere here, it's going to come together. In this league, you get a win and you hit on a couple of these things and you go from there. Now, it's going the opposite way. And we need to make sure we stop that, keep practicing our fundamentals, and doing
the things that we know are right."
After starting off the season in a nice manner, Eagles have slumped badly. Even before the season, Eagles had been rated as a playoff team and their positive start to the season further asserted that impression.
However, their recent slump has pushed them far behind defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants, who are leading National Football Conference (NFC) East at 6-3.
On the other hand, Eagles are 3-5, tied with the Dallas Cowboys, just ahead of Washington Redskins.
The structure of NFC East, which was rated to the most competitive division before the season, is unexpectedly shaping up as a one-sided affair, in which Giants clearly have a strong lead.
Barring any surprises in the second half of the season, Giants might easily qualify for the playoffs from the division.
This season is important for Reid as well because he has been serving the team for more than a decade and has failed to bring the National Football League (NFL) title home.
Referring to the team’s performance in the 2011 season, the owner of the franchise said during the offseason that another 8-8 season would not be acceptable to him.
If Eagles do not perform well this season, Reid and many other players including quarterback Michael Vick might not be considered as part of the team in the longer run. However, Reid is not thinking about that at the moment and keeping his focus on the team’s
performance. The Eagles’ head coach said:
"There is no time to think about those things. The guys are worrying about getting themselves better to win football games. That's number one. That's where I sit."
