Philadelphia Eagles kicker Alex Henery sets another franchise record – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles kicker Alex Henery has set second franchise record of his career by reaching 105 kicking points.
In 2011 when he played as a rookie, Henery completed 118 points, which were the most in Eagles franchise history.
According to the Eagles’ website, Henery said of himself:
"I feel like I've been consistent field-goal wise. I'm happy with how I hit the ball."
He has succeeded in 90 percent of field goal attempts this season (27 of 30) with 105 kicking points.
Considering Eagles’ 4-11 record, they have not qualified for the playoffs, thus next game will be their final one in the season.
Henery has to give a breakout performance in Week 17 game against their National Football Conference (NFC) East rivals New York Giants.
In this season, Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh is expected to be the leading kicker. Walsh has made 91.4 percent field goals (32 of 35) with 128 kicking points.
Henery is not disappointed with his performance this season. He said:
"I thought I had a pretty good year and ready to go into it next year and start another run."
During Week 14 game against Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Henery kicked a field goal of more than 50 yards but it was called off for false start penalty on that play.
According to Eagles’ special teams coordinator Bobby April, Henery has the ability to hit more and better kicks.
April said:
“He just hasn’t been in position. He hasn’t had that many long misses and he doesn’t have any misses to seal the deal. He just hasn’t had the opportunity, so I think that’s kind of kept him out of there."
He added
"Hitting the long ones and hitting the game-winners, it puts you in a category as elite when you do that and when you do it consistently, you really become elite,"
Henery has played really well throughout the season. He has made 100 percent field goal attempts in 12 games of this season. He was drafted as fourth-round pick in the National Football League (NFL) 2011 draft.
