Philadelphia Eagles leading NFC East after Week 4 – NFL News
With defeat to Dallas Cowboys in their Week 4 game against Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles secured the top slot in National Football Conference (NFC) East after Week 4 of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
Rated as the most competitive division of the league this season, NFC East has witnessed different teams leading it during the first four weeks.
All of its teams expect for defending Super Bowl champions New York Giants started off their respective campaigns this season on a winning note, setting up ground for a fierce challenge for the rest of the season.
Eagles were lucky and dominant right from the start as they won their second game as well to gain lead in the division, while Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins and Giants were 1-1 each after Week 2.
Week 3 was a bit tough for Eagles as they lost their first game of the season. The defeat also took away their lead in NFC East as Cowboys and Giants also won their respective games. Redskins, on the other hand, lost their Week 3 game as well.
Week 4 saw Eagles winning their game, but their position was still not confirmed in the division because Cowboys had to play a Monday night game.
Giants lost their Week 4 game, leaving the competition for the leadership in the division between Eagles and Cowboys. Redskins ended their two-game skid in Week 4 and joined Giants at 2-2.
Fortunately for Eagles, Cowboys lost their Week 4 game and hence the sole leadership of the division fell on Eagles’ lap.
Eagles are now 3-1, while Cowboys, Redskins and Giants are each at 2-2 and placed at placed at second, third and fourth position respectively.
Eagles defence has performed exceptionally well for them and they are up for maintaining their performance for the rest of the season.
According to the details present on Eagles’ website, defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins highlighted the team’s goal after Week 4 victory:
"We want to be the identity of this team. We want teams to know that when they come in here they’re facing some tough people. We want them to know that. Regardless of if they get a little bit here or there, we’re going to keep fighting. We’re not backing down from anything."
There are still 12 games left for all these teams in the regular season and things could change drastically during the next few weeks. However, getting off to a successful start is something that the Eagles desperately needed. They are seeking a playoff berth and could also clear some hurdles in the postseason to shock observers.
