Philadelphia Eagles’ linebacker DeMeco Ryans enjoys OTAs – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles kicked off their organised team activities (OTAs) on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, and linebacker, DeMeco Ryans, enjoyed training with his teammates for the first time.
Ryans joined the Eagles a couple of months ago after the Houston Texans traded him.
Eagles are putting special focus on improving their defensive play in the upcoming National Football League (NFL) season and Ryans’ acquisition was aimed at serving that cause.
Ryans has been playing as a regular starter since starting his professional career in 2006, but he is yet to learn his new team’s playbook completely.
Although he has got experience, it will take some time for him to get familiarised with the playing conditions.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Ryans is actively participating in the voluntary OTAs and enjoying his work.
He said of the first day of the OTAs:
"It was fun. I've just been waiting for a long time to put the Eagles gear on and step up out there. It was fun being able to come together as a team and get a little practice in. I enjoyed it. Things start moving kind of fast out there the first day, but
it was a good start for us."
Although Eagles failed to perform up to the expectations in the last season in which they were not even able to qualify for the playoffs, they are considered as one of the strongest contenders to win the National Football Conference (NFC) championship title
in the 2012 season.
As the addition of players like Ryans has strengthened the defensive unit, Eagles’ offence is also gearing up to complement the defence.
Quarterback, Michael Vick, is focusing on improving his accuracy whereas wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, and running back, LeSean McCoy, have received the much needed job security in form of respective contract extensions.
Ryans is of the view that the presence of all these players during the practice will help the defence train effectively. He said:
"I see a lot of playmakers and I'm excited about our offence. Being able to go against them is going to be tough for us, but that's what you need. You go against a tough offence in practice, it makes game day a lot easier when you're facing opposing offences.”
