Philadelphia Eagles need improvement as they face New York Giants – NFL Preview
Fortune finally let Philadelphia Eagles handle matter on the field when they faced Arizona Cardinals in Week 3 game on the back of two victories, and the result of the game suggested that the Eagles need to focus hard on improving their performance to end
reliance on luck for their victories.
New York Giants, on the other hand, have shown resilience and adaptability to get their two victories in the season after being defeated by Dallas Cowboys in the season opener.
As Eagles and Giants prepare to face each other on Sunday, September 30, for Week 4 game at Lincoln Financial Field, Giants are hoping to further build on their last two performances, while Eagles are looking for a fresh start after the recent defeat.
Eagles linebacker DeMeco Ryans said of the game:
“It’s a big game, a big week. With this being a divisional game, it’s huge for us. Our first divisional game is when we’re looking to start out really good in our division."
Quarterback Michael Vick-led offence has so far been unable to be consistently productive for Eagles this season and if this trend continues they might not be able to qualify for the playoffs this year.
Their defence has been reasonably well on a few occasions, but the overall team effort needs to be much better if Eagles want to sustain pressure in this competitive league.
The competition in National Football Conference (NFC) East is even tougher because Eagles, Giants and Cowboys have so far expressed winning intentions that could lead them to the playoffs, while Washington Redskins could also rebound to further increase
the competition.
This has left no room for error for any team in the division and this is what Eagles must realise.
Meanwhile, Giants are hoping to continue their good form in this game as well. After being defeated by Cowboys, they staged a comeback victory over Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, while they completely dominated Carolina Panthers in Week 3 game.
They have shown consistent improvement in their game while they have also increased reliance on their running game due to presence of many good players.
Running back Ahmad Bradshaw is set to return and start against Eagles, while Giants will also utilise Andre Brown, who has been remarkable for them so far.
Besides good running backs, Giants also have services of in-form wide receivers. Victor Cruz and Ramses Barden will be quarterback Eli Manning’s target. However, Hakeem Nicks’ participation is in jeopardy as he is listed as doubtful
Giants otherwise have many options to initiate scoring drives while relying on running backs and receivers. Since Giants have a balanced unit with their running backs and receivers in good perform, it could be difficult to divide playing time, but Giants
head coach Tom Coughlin is not troubled by presence of many options. He said:
“The more the merrier. Let’s have all the talent we can possibly have. They’ll contribute in a lot of different ways and over the course of 16 games, it all works out.”
