Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie seeks improvement in team’s performance – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has clearly stated that he wants his team to improve and register better statistics in the 2012 season and that the future of head coach Andy Reid will be decided after the end of the season.
Before the Eagles preseason finale against New York Jets on Thursday, August 30, 2012, Lurie asserted that the Eagles have a pretty good squad that is capable of achieving success. He said:
"We need substantial improvement. We have a very good team on paper, and paper doesn't get you that far if you don't maximise it."
Eagles indeed have a pretty good squad, but they had a very impressive squad on paper last year as well. However, the way they failed is not hidden from anyone and this is the reason why many experts are a bit cautious in predicting success for the Eagles
in the 2012 season.
Meanwhile, Lurie has also said that he will decide the status of Eagles head coach Andy Reid based on the team’s performance in the upcoming season. Reid has been serving the Eagles since more than a decade and is the longest-tenured coach among the current
National Football League (NFL) coaches.
The owner said of Reid’s contract:
“You try to make the best judgment you can after the season. There will be no formula regarding the right decision. It'll be very clear."
On the other hand, Reid does not seem bothered about his contract situation. As Eagles defeated the Jets to finish an undefeated preseason, Reid cited the Eagles’ last year record of 8-8 and vowed to be better than that this year.
He said:
"I don't care about that stuff. He has high expectations. I have high expectations. Let's go play. We surely won't be satisfied with 8-8. We're striving for better than that. I'm not worried about it. I understand the business. I have a great relationship
with Jeffrey.”
Eagles are going to start their regular season campaign from September 09. They will take on Cleveland Browns in the season opener. Some experts have even predicted that the Eagles will win the National Football Conference (NFC) East and easily qualify for
the playoffs this year.
