Philadelphia Eagles part ways with head coach Andy Reid – NFL News
The Philadelphia Eagles have parted ways with head coach Andy Reid after another dismal season in which the team once again failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Reid, who served the team for 14 seasons, had already seen the decision coming. He had hoped to finish his contractual tenure with the Eagles, but said that any decision would be acceptable to him.
After finishing the 2011 season at 8-8, the Eagles retained Reid even though a few reports suggested that they would part ways with the official.
However, Eagles chairman and chief executive officer Jeffrey Lurie had already said that another 8-8 would not be acceptable to him. The Eagles, despite starting the 2012 season on a winning note, failed to continue the momentum, and ended the season at
the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East after winning only four out of their 16 games.
According to the details present on Eagles’ website, Lurie has appreciated Reid’s services for the franchise. He said:
"Andy Reid won the most games of any head coach in Eagles history and he is someone I respect greatly and will remain friends with for many years to come. But, it is time for the Eagles to move in a new direction. Coach Reid leaves us with a winning tradition
that we can build upon. And we are very excited about the future.”
He added:
"The search for the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles will begin immediately.”
Under Reid, the Eagles qualified for the playoffs nine times, but never won the Super Bowl. They got a shot at the title in the 2004 season in which they lost the title game against the New England Patriots.
Overall, Reid led the Eagles for 243 games. He was able to win 140 games, while the team lost 102 games under him. One game was tied.
As per his regular season stats, Reid got 130 wins, 93 defeats, and one tie game. In the playoffs, Reid secured 10 wins and got nine defeats.
Reid’s tenure was among the best for the Eagles, but since the last few years the last few years the team was unable to perform well despite having a very good roster.
