Philadelphia Eagles performance report – NFL Special part 1
Philadelphia Eagles have virtually lost their chances of reaching the playoffs, as they are placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) East and have lost a huge number of games this season.
In this special report, we are going to review ups and downs of Eagles’ performance till Week 15 game of the 2012 season.
Eagles started the regular season at 3-1, but later went on to lose eight straight games. The losing streak somewhat decided their fate in the season. In this part we will analyse Eagles’ performance from Week 1 to Week 4 game.
Week 1: Cleveland Browns
Defence of both Cleveland Browns and Eagles seemed strong in the first quarter, as they did not let opposing offences to score any points.
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick threw a touchdown pass in the second quarter, and led the score to 10-3. He completed 29 of 56 passes for 317 yards and scored two touchdowns with four interceptions.
On Vick’s fourth interception, Browns linebacker D’Qwell Jackson scored a touchdown and increased their points. Browns’ defence forced Eagles’ for five turnovers and 12 penalties.
During the final minutes of the game, Eagles tight end Clay Harbor received a 4-yard pass from Vick and scored the winning touchdown, ending the game at 17-16.
Week 2: Baltimore Ravens
Vick’s 1-yard rushing touchdown in the final minutes of the game led Eagles to a 24-23 win against Baltimore Ravens.
Eagles running back LeSean McCoy started the lead by rushing for 1 yard towards the end zone in the first quarter.
Vick received counterattack from Ravens defence, as he did not score any touchdown in the first half. He was 23 of 32 for 371 yards and threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jeremy Maclin in the third quarter, followed by kicker Alex Henery’s 23-yard
field goal that tied the score at 17-17.
Eagles became the only team in the National Football League (NFL) history to win the first two games of a season by one point.
Week 3: Arizona Cardinals
It was completely a one-sided game as Arizona Cardinals thrashed the Eagles by 27-6.
Eagles could not score any touchdown in the game, only points they gained in third quarter were by Henery, who kicked two field goals of 36 and 40 yards respectively.
Vick completed 17 of 37 passes for 217 yards, and McCoy rushed 13 times for 70 yards.
Week 4: New York Giants
It is Henery who should get the credit for this win, as he scored four field goals of 20, 48, 35 and 26 yards respectively during the game.
Vick completed 19 of 30 passes for 241 yards and threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeSean Jackson in second quarter to start the lead.
Vick did not seem under pressure in the game as he was able to control his accuracy. In the last three games Eagles had already given away 12 turnovers.
McCoy fumbled once and he rushed 23 times for 123 yards. Eagles defeated their NFC East rivals New York Giants by 19-17.
